Open LETTER OF APPEAL to the Middleborough Board of Selectmen, Town Manager

June 17, 2007

While we are sympathetic to the concerns of our neighbors the Mashpee Wampanoag to expedite the forward movement of the Tribe, we representative residents of Middleboro also have a concern. We feel that it is of grave importance that the development of this region – specifically a mega-complex gambling casino – be decided upon by the residents and voters of this region.

We feel that it is paramount that the ramifications of the affects on traffic, social well-being, public health, emergency services, aesthetics, environment, wetlands, morality, infrastructure and economics be considered at length and not be designed by short-sightedness, incompetence or the formidable pressures placed by an outside, international multi-billion dollar consortium.

Therefore, we appeal to you – Middleboro’s elected and appointed leadership – to abstain from entering into any agreement regarding a proposed casino in Middleboro until a vote be placed before the residents of this community, whether it be by special town meeting or referendum question.
